Height & Spread: 3 metres x 3metres.
Position: Their preferred site is one that isn't too hot and gets some shade. They do well in light, dappled shade.
Planting Instructions: Back-fill with soil mixed with an acid soil and a suitable fertiliser, prefer moist soil.
Water: Acers do not like to sit in wet or soggy ground, although they require regular watering, good drainage is crucial. Take care not to get water on the leaves as they are very delicate and it can burn them.
Pruning: Generally fine without pruning, however pruning out dead or diseased branches is necessary. In addition, if the middle of the tree seems crowded, with many branches crossing each other, thin them out. You can also prune lower branches for appearance. Prune in late Autumn or Winter when the tree is dormant.
Feeding: In general, fertiliser should not be necessary. If you feel the tree needs extra help, you can fertilise in early spring with an all-purpose slow-release fertiliser. Always water thoroughly after fertilising.
Other Information: Although not strictly necessary, a 1 or 2 inch layer of compost or other mulch around, but not touching the tree's trunk, will help keep the soil moist and prevent growth of weeds around the tree.
