History of the Scheme

Launched in 2006, the Green Fingered Kids scheme was designed to get more schools and school children growing and gardening.

Since it's inception, over 220 local schools have joined our scheme allowing them to collect vouchers towards teaching and promoting horticulture in their curriculum. Over £8500 of credit was donated to schools as a direct result of our spring 2010 voucher schemes alone. This can be spent on gardening accessories, tools, seeds and/or plants at Woodcote Green Nurseries to aid schools in teaching their students about gardens and gardening, healthy eating and the natural world.

General Manager Phil Barnden said; "It's been an overwhelming success. It's a brilliant way to get youngsters gardening and a great way for us to continue supporting our community. We are thrilled to have so many local schools participating and have plans to extend the scheme even further."

2010 has shown an amazing response from schools, with membership now reaching 228 across an area that covers 3 counties allowing access for nearly 75,000 school children to horticulture and all that it can bring to their education.
